There have been many events over the past few years that have drawn attention to the role that citizens play in their communities during the first hours after a disaster or other major emergency. As emergency responders & government resources are stretched & overwhelmed, neighbors repeatedly step up to help neighbors in need. As you have watched these stories play out, have you wondered how you could get better prepared to help your friends, family & neighbors in a disaster? If so consider participating in a CERT class! Butler County Emergency Management is offering a free 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class. Through a combination of classroom presentations, hands-on activities & a final disaster scenario, this course equips citizens to "bridge the gap" between a community's needs and available help. Class size is limited to the first 25 registrants. Teens age 14 & older are welcome to join as long as they are accompanied by a parent of guardian.
