Work begins on U.S. 400 culvert replacement near Beaumont

Work started Monday, Oct. 31, on a delayed culvert replacement on U.S. 400 near Beaumont, in Butler County.

The location is 2.6 miles west of Beaumont at Tallgrass Road.

This project became necessary after deterioration was discovered in the drainage pipe beneath the highway. As a precaution, traffic this summer was reduced to one lane controlled by traffic signals, with motorists facing delays of up to five minutes. That traffic control will continue through the work, which is expected to be completed in about a month.

The project has been delayed by the need to develop plans for the replacement and by the time it took to manufacture the large concrete pipe.

Dondlinger & Sons Construction Co. Inc., of Wichita, is the primary contractor.

The map below shows the approximate project location, circled in red.
