Protesting Taxes

Real estate taxes are based on the valuation of your property. There are two ways you may protest your property valuation which in turn may have an affect on your real estate taxes:

  • When you receive your valuation notice from the Appraiser's Office in the spring, you have 30 days to schedule an informal hearing regarding the valuation of the property.

  • If you do not have an informal hearing you may pay under protest by completing a Payment Under Protest Form when you pay your taxes in the Treasurers Office.

If the first half of your taxes are paid by a mortgage company you have until January 31 to submit your payment under protest form.
