Personal Property Taxes
Personal Property taxes are assessed on personal property owned as of January 1. Types of personal property assessed includes:
- Mobile Homes
- Heavy Trucks
- Non Highway Vehicles
- Mopeds / motorbikes
- Business machinery and equipment
Tax statements are mailed late November. If you do not receive a tax statement by December 1, please contact our office at (316) 322-4210.
Taxpayers have the option of paying personal property taxes in two halves. The first half is due December 20 and the second half is due May 10. If the first half personal property taxes are not received by December 20 then the taxes become due in full.
Tax payments must be received in our office by December 20 and May 10 to avoid interest. No second half notices are sent. You may sign up in our Notify Me section to receive email or text message reminders of payment due dates.
Any taxpayer with delinquent personal property taxes will not be able to tag, title, or renew any motor vehicle.
Forms of payment accepted in the office are cash, check, or credit/debit card. If paying by credit/debit card there is a convenience fee retained by the card processing company associated with the payment based on a percentage of the amount being charged and the person whose name is printed on the card must be present to sign the credit card receipt.
Online Tax Payments

There is a 2.5%convenience fee based on the amount being charged retained by the credit card company if any card is used.

Delinquent Personal Property Taxes
Personal Property taxes become due in full if the first half is not paid by December 20. Interest accrues daily on the full amount until paid. Delinquent tax notices for unpaid first half taxes are mailed out in February. If the taxes are not paid within 14 days of receipt of the notice then sheriff warrants are issued and a treasurer fee is assessed to the outstanding taxes and accrued interest.
Delinquent tax notices for unpaid second half taxes are mailed out in June. If the taxes are not paid within 14 days of receipt of the notice then sheriff warrants are issued and a treasurer fee is assessed to the outstanding taxes and accrued interest. Delinquent Tax Listings are printed in the newspaper and on the county website by October 10. Once the delinquent taxes are listed in the newspaper a publication fee is due in addition to the outstanding taxes, treasurer fee, and accrued interest.
All unpaid personal property tax warrants are turned over to the Clerk of the District Court on October 1 and a court fee becomes due in addition to the outstanding taxes, treasurer fee, publication fee, and accrued interest.
