Our Mission Statement

It is our mission, as representatives of the Butler County Sheriff's Office, to serve all citizens, whomever they may be, with respect.

We accomplish this by being ethical, professional, courteous, and efficient in order to meet the issues of law enforcement in an ever-changing society, while respecting the rights of the individual citizen.

Agency Information

The Butler County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency serving Butler County, Kansas. Butler County is the largest county in the State of Kansas, with a size of approximately 1,472 square miles. The sheriff of Butler County is an elected official who serves a term of four years between each election.

Duties

The Sheriff's Office is charged, by statute, with providing all primary law enforcement services within Butler County. This agency also provides related law enforcement services to the entire county, including civil and criminal process, assistance to municipal agencies, crime prevention programs, security for the Butler County Court House, and an adult detention facility.

Staff & Divisions

The Sheriff's Office employs over 120 deputies, support, and administrative staff, and a few part-time deputies. The Sheriff's Office has several divisions and specially trained sub-groups to serve the citizens of Butler County. The Sheriff's Office also maintains a full-service SWAT Team derived from officers of various assignments within the department to respond when needed.
