Recycled Appliances & Equipment Policy
Since the federal Clean Air Act of 1990 prohibits the uncontrolled discharge of chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere after July 1, 1992, the following is the chlorofluorocarbon policy for recycled appliances and equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons at the landfill.
The customer may bring the appliance containing a chlorofluorocarbon to the Landfill and pay $20 chlorofluorocarbon removal charge. Butler County will remove the chlorofluorocarbon from the appliance thus making it acceptable for recycling.
For free disposal, customers must provide Freon removal certification for items such as refrigerators, freezers, A/C units, dehumidifiers, etc. in order for the landfill to accept. The landfill will accept items that previously contained refrigeration if accompanied with a removal certification.
