Job Descriptions:
All positions in the service of Butler County, Kansas, shall be either elected, unclassified or classified. Each classified position shall have a concise, descriptive title, a description of the duties and responsibilities of positions in the class, and a statement of the qualifications for filling such positions. Such descriptions shall be approved by the Board of County Commissioners, shall be kept on file in the office of the Department of Administration and shall be open to inspection by any interested party during regular office hours. Each job classification shall be assigned an appropriate pay range approved by the County Commissioners.

Unclassified Position:
Unclassified positions are exempt from the normal employment procedures, grievance rights, and termination policies. Additionally, unclassified personnel are not eligible for any benefits, such as paid leaves or health insurance.

Classified Position:
Classified positions are governed by all Butler County Personnel Policies, and are employed through the normal employment procedures. These positions are eligible for all benefits. Some classified positions such as executives, professional employees and certain employees in administrative positions are typically exempt from overtime based upon the Federal Labor Standards Act regulations.

Elected Officials:
Elected officials hold positions that are filled by election. These positions are exempt from all personnel policies, but shall receive insurance and retirement benefits. Elected positions are also exempt from Federal Labor Standards Act regulations.

Clerk II - Full Time Position

Dept/Agency: Butler County Appraiser's Department
Pay Rate: Starting Wage - $10.09 an hour
Pay Range - $20,985 to $28,226
Qualifications:

The employee in this position will be assigned a variety of duties of limited complexity involving the discovery, listing and valuing of personal property. This employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment.

This position requires a pre-employment drug screening.

Human Services and Health Care Positions

Position: Detention Officer
Dept/Agency: Butler County Jail
Pay Rate: Starting Wage - $12.28 an Hour
Pay Range - $25,545 to $34,370
Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED is required. Minimal experience in law enforcement or jail supervision is required. Thorough knowledge of crisis intervention. Must have good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Kansas driver's license.

Professional and Administrative Positions

Position:

Engineering Technician - Land Surveyor

Dept/Agency: Butler County Department of Public Works
Pay Rate: Pay Range - $45,871 to $61,927
Butler County offers an excellent benefits package.
Qualifications:

Persons interested must be a Registered Land Surveyor in the State of Kansas and have a minimum of six years experience in land surveying. A minimum of five years experience is desired in plan preparation, construction inspection and materials testing related to road, bridge, drainage and other public works related projects.
