The Butler County Sheriff's Office is a full service law enforcement agency serving Butler County, Kansas. Butler is the largest county in the State of Kansas with approximately 1,472 square miles. The Sheriff of Butler County is an elected official of four-year-terms.

The Sheriff's Office is by statute charged with providing all primary law enforcement services within Butler County. This agency also provides related law enforcement services to the entire county, including civil and criminal process, assistance to municipal agencies, crime prevention and education programs, security for the Butler County Court House, and an adult detention facility.

The Sheriff's Office employees 117 full-time (49 state certified deputies, 7 civilians, 61 detention facility personnel) and 7 part-time deputies. The Sheriff's office is comprised of seven divisions. Patrol, Investigations, Warrants and Civil, Training/Grants, DARE/Crime Prevention, Court Security, and Detention. In addition to those units, the Sheriff's office has a full service SWAT Team as well as a reserve unit when needed.

The Sheriff's Office has geographically sub-divided Butler County into four specific areas of responsibility called districts. Patrol officers are assigned a district as their primary area of responsibility.
