BUTLER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Commission Chairman Will Carpenter called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitewater American Legion Building, Whitewater, Ks.   Present were Commissioner Phil Anderson, Commissioner Randy Doll, Commissioner Bill Shriver, Commissioner Mike Wheeler, Administrator Will Johnson Jr., and Recorder Clerk Brenda Brychta.

 

ITEMS OF BUSINESS

 

ITEM #1 – PUBLIC COMMENTS

Frances Mackee, resident of Whitewater, came before the Board with comments, speculations and an objection to a landfill by Sedgwick County.

OTHER ITEMS TO COME

 BEFORE THE BOARD

Rob McCoy, of Whitewater, came before the Board to inquire about striping on the county roads.

Commissioner Shriver stated that the County had purchased a striping truck, which should help this situation.  

 

Mr. McCoy also inquired on the progress of the Windfarms. 

Commissioner Shriver stated that the decisions to allow and disallow Windfarms was still in the appeals process in the courts.

 

Ms. Mackee asked if there would be a real estate tax increase.

Commissioner Shriver explained all the taxing entities that were included on the tax bills, (i.e. cities, county and Butler Community College), and encouraged the public to attend the Community College Board meetings and express their concerns about their continually increasing budget.

 

 

PROCLAMATION

Commissioner Wheeler read the proclamation setting the week of March 15, 2004 through March 19,2004 as Severe Weather Awareness Week

 

Administrator Johnson informed the Board that FEMA is mapping the flood plains in Butler County and will incorporate this into our GIS/Mapping system.  This is at no cost to the County.

 

ADDS & ABATES

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the Adds and Abates #2178.  The adds are in the amount of $2,691.72 and Abates are $37,449.92.  Commissioner Wheeler seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT

Commissioner Shriver motioned to adjourn the meeting of the Board at 8:45 p.m.  Commissioner Wheeler seconded the motion.  Motion carried. 5-0.
