COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Commission Chairman Will Carpenter called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 a.m. Present were Commissioner Phil Anderson, Commissioner Randy Doll, Commissioner Bill Shriver, Commissioner Mike Wheeler, Assistant Administrator Mark Detter, and Clerk Recorder Tammy Bridges. County Administrator, Will Johnson, Jr., was absent.
Larry Powell, Economic Development Director, came before the Board to present a Dunn and Bradstreet report regarding the L. B. Foster Company.
Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the contract between Fosters Rail Products, 6500 Langfield Rd, Houston, Texas, and Butler County, in the amount of $369,804 for the material on the rail project between Augusta and Andover. A credit report was reviewed and found to be satisfactory. Commissioner Shriver seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.
Darryl Lutz, Public Works Director, came before the Board for approval to purchase pile driving equipment and other miscellaneous items at a bridge equipment auction in Waverly, Kansas. Commissioner Shriver motioned to give authority to the Public Works Department to spend up to $5,000 at the upcoming auction. Commissioner Wheeler seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.
Darryl Lutz stated that he would be speaking at the El Dorado Lions Club at 6:30 p.m. tonight regarding the structure of the Public Works Department, the type of service the department provides, and the landfill operations.
Mark Detter, Assistant Administrator, came before the Board to present the revised Third Quarter Report and stated that it was in good shape. It was decided that Mr. Detter would be presenting financial reports to the Board on a monthly basis.
Commissioner Carpenter recessed the Board at 9:30 a.m. for 30 minutes in order to welcome high school seniors for County Government Day.
Commissioner Carpenter reconvened the Board at 10:00 a.m.

#1 – COUNTY GOVERNMENT DAY ACTIVITIES WITH LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS
The Commissioners held discussions and answered questions with seven groups of high school seniors from area schools, including Andover, Bluestem, Circle, El Dorado, and Rose Hill.

Commissioner Wheeler motioned to adjourn the meeting of the Board on October 19, 2004 at 11:55 a.m. Commissioner Shriver seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.
