COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Monday, February 4, 2002
Commission Chairman Randy Doll called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order. Present were Commissioners Bill Shriver & Will Carpenter, Jay Newton, Administrator and Commission Secretary, Linda Peterson.
Commissioner Carpenter moved to approve the Butler County Commission Meeting minutes of Monday, January 28, 2002 and Tuesday, January 29, 2002. Commissioner Shriver seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.
Commissioner Carpenter moved to approve vouchers totaling $803,277.89 dated February 4, 2002. This would be a split of $18,378.67 for 2001 and $784,899.22 for 2002. Commissioner Doll seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.
Commissioner Doll moved to approve the Adds in the amount of +$1,640.20, and the Abates in the amount of -$4,052.20, with the approval #2086. Commissioner Carpenter seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.
Mr. David Alfaro, Chairman of the Hazard Mitigation Team and Jim Schmidt, Emergency Management Director presented an update on the FEMA funded Project Impact programs. Key Construction will be constructing the shelters for the amount budgeted and will donate the remaining cost with help from other volunteers. Storm sirens for the El Dorado Lake area, and the Beaumont Community plus the Safety Education trailer have been purchased and are ready to be installed. The National weather radios are here, and Interstate Battery in Towanda is donating the batteries. The volunteers will program the radios and deliver them to the Elderly and Disabled.
The Commissioners stated that this was a job well done, and let them know how things progress.
Mr. Schmidt did comment on last week’s ice storm. He stated that they received use of a back up generator from Sedgwick County for the Leon water tower, which was a blessing. He would like to write a letter of “Thanks” from the Butler County Commissioners to Sedgwick County.
Clark Allemang, County Appraiser, came before the Board to request permission (to send out for) bids for 3 used vehicles.
Commissioner Shriver moved to approved requesting bids for 3 used vehicles for the Appraisers Office. Commissioner Carpenter seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.
Clark Allemang, County Appraiser brought to the Board a recommendation to re-classify the position of Deputy County Appraiser, from range 19 to 23.
Commissioners discussed the qualification for this position and would like to see a comparison to other counties on the pay scale.
Commissioner Doll moved to table this issue. Commissioner Shriver seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Commissioner
Doll moved to recess into Executive Session at 10:02 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., to
discuss Personnel matters of individual non-elected personnel. Commissioner Shriver seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.

Commission reconvened at 11:15 a.m.
