BUTLER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Tuesday, July 10, 2001

Commission Vice-Chairman, Randy Doll, called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order.  Present was Commissioner Will Carpenter, County Administrator, Jay Newton and Commission Secretary, Marcy Zwall. Commission Chairman, Bill Shriver was on vacation.

DISPOSAL OF DEPARTMENT ON AGING VAN

Connie Rausch, Director of Department on Aging, proposed assigning the title of the 1985 Ford Van (“Old Blue” ID #0268 – owned by Butler County, used by Andover Senior Center) over to the Andover Senior Center.  The van was bought new in 1985 with a 20% match from Andover Senior Center.  Commissioner Doll suggested giving it to another community’s Senior Center – maybe Potwin?  Ms. Rausch indicated that the van was not in desirable condition.

Commissioner Carpenter moved to assign the title of the 1985 Ford Van (“Old Blue” ID #0268) over to the Andover Senior Center, and inform the insurance company to cancel the policy; and allow the Chair to sign.

Commissioner Doll seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

FEDERAL SURPLUS FORKLIFT PURCHASE

On behalf of Ray Affleck, Building & Grounds Department, Administrator Newton has requested permission to purchase a forklift from the federal surplus, to be used at the County storage facility.  Currently, “back power”, along with jacks, is being used to do the lifting.  The forklift desired is a 1980 model Hyster with 133 hours on a new motor & is priced at $4,500.  Commissioner Doll mentioned that, although some type of equipment is needed, it might be beneficial to “do some shopping”.  Commissioner Carpenter informed the Board that said brand was a “decent brand at a reasonable price.”

Commissioner Carpenter moved to approve Building & Grounds to purchase a 1980 Hyster forklift, at a price not to exceed $4500, to be paid out of the Building & Grounds Budget.

Commissioner Doll seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

Grant Helferich, EMS Director, presented & reviewed the 2002 Budget Proposal for the Emergency Medical Services.  In addition, Mr. Helferich discussed the Rescue Squad 2002 Proposed Budget.
