There

ITEM #2– ITEMS OF MUTUAL CONCERN BETWEEN BUTLER COUNTY
AND THE CITY OF BENTON
City
Commissioner Kenneth Gile stated that the County Commission had recently raised
the tipping fees at the landfill. He
then inquired as to whether the land was self-supporting or even made a profit.
Commissioner
Woydziak answered that the landfill does not make a profit or even break even.
The
landfill receives about $250,000 in tax money in addition to the income from
fees. He also stated that a large part
of the tax dollars goes to the support of the recycling programs the landfill
sponsors.
City
Commissioner Gile said that Benton has the county recycle trailer in town
periodically and it seems to collect a lot of items, but the city has never
tried to advocate or require recycling.
He wondered if the county would prefer them be more aggressive toward
recycling?
Commissioner
Woydziak stated that the County was not pushing the cities into recycling at
this time but could help them if that was a direction they wanted to go.
OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS
Administrator Will
Johnson, Jr., said that the City of Towanda has asked the County to prohibit
parking on a dead end stretch of the old highway west of town. There has been
some problem with large trucks parking there and blocking the access to some

After some discussion
Commissioner Carpenter asked that the item be tabled until he could visit with
the City about the matter.
