CALL TO ORDER
Commission Chairman Dan Woydziak called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 a.m. Present were Commissioner Will Carpenter, Commissioner Randy Doll, Commissioner Randy Waldorf, Commissioner Mike Wheeler, Administrator Will Johnson, Jr., and Clerk Recorder Tammy Bridges.
Commissioner Waldorf motioned to approve the minutes of the Butler County Commission Meeting of Tuesday, October 31, 2006 as written. Commissioner Doll seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.
ITEM #1 – PRESENT SPOTLIGHT AWARD
TO DEPUTY AARON WALDORF, SHERIFF’S DEPUTY, FOR HIS ACTIONS REGARDING AN
INVESTIGATION ON MARCH 29, 2006
Deputy Aaron Waldorf, Sheriff’s Department, was recognized for his actions in uncovering a crime while on routine patrol on March 29, 2006 in Towanda. Sheriff Craig Murphy recognized Deputy Waldorf for his actions on that date and awarded the certificate of merit and accompanying bar to him. Commissioner Woydziak presented Deputy Waldorf with the Spotlight Certificate along with a $20.00 gift certificate to a local business.
ITEM #2 – PRESENT SPOTLIGHT AWARD TO SERGEANT BRANDON STEWART, SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, FOR HIS PROFESSIONALISM DURING AN INCIDENT OCCURRING ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2006
Sgt. Brandon Stewart, Sheriff’s Department, responded to a report of a possible kidnapping, aggravated burglary, and aggravated battery with a weapon in the Rosalia area on September 13, 2006. Sheriff Craig Murphy recognized Sgt. Stewart for his actions on the above date and was presented with the Silver Wreath of Valor. Commissioner Woydziak presented Sgt. Stewart with the Spotlight Certificate along with a $20.00 gift certificate to a local business.
ITEM #3 – PRESENT SPOTLIGHT AWARD TO DETECTIVE TIM ELDREDGE, SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, FOR HIS ASSISTANCE WITH AN INVESTIGATION OCCURRING ON OCTOBER 18, 2006
Detective Tim Eldredge, Sheriff’s Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation along with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Riley County Sheriff’s Office and Wamego Police Department were all involved in an investigation. KBI Director Larry Welch conveyed how impressed the KBI was with Detective Eldredge. Commissioner Woydziak presented Detective Eldredge with the Spotlight Certificate along with a $20.00 gift certificate to a local business.
ITEM #4 – PRESENT SPOTLIGHT AWARD TO JAMIE DOWNS, WIC COORDINATOR AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR HER WORK IN SECURING FUNDS TO PURCHASE INFRASTRUCTURE ITEMS FOR THE WIC PROGRAM
Jamie Downs, WIC Coordinator, worked in securing funds to purchase infrastructure items for the WIC program. Jamie took time out of her busy schedule to write the request for these funds and has worked hard to update the offices and provide an educational, fun place for the children.
Commissioner Woydziak presented Jamie Downs with the Spotlight Certificate along with a $20.00 gift certificate to a local business.
Commissioner Woydziak stated that on behalf of the commission, he appreciates everything the Spotlight Award recipients do for the citizens of the county, and said they are all an asset to Butler County.
ITEM #5 – WORK SESSION – JUDICIAL CENTER SEWER LINE
REPAIRS
Ken Bratton, Director of Buildings and Grounds, came before the Board to discuss sewer line repairs at the Judicial Center. Nowak Construction Co. and Tri-State Plumbing, Inc. will do the repair work, and the Public Works Department will finish the asphalt and curb repair.
Commissioner Waldorf motioned to approve the repair
work to the Judicial Building by Nowak, Tri-State, and Butler County. Commissioner Carpenter seconded the
motion. Motion carried 5-0.
Commissioner Woydziak asked about the roof on the East Annex Building and Ken Bratton said the final coating has been applied and we’re waiting for the manufacturer representative to inspect it.
Administrator Johnson said they would be talking with an architect regarding the cost of updating the elevator in the Courthouse.
APPROVAL OF VOUCHERS
Commissioner Carpenter motioned
to approve the vouchers dated November 6, 2006 in the amount of
$98,696.33. Commissioner Waldorf
seconded the motion. Motion carried
5-0.
APPROVAL OF ADDS AND ABATES
None.
OTHER ITEMS OF
BUSINESS TO COME BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Wheeler asked about the Bill Johnson property in Rosalia. Administrator Johnson said they would be meeting Mr. Bill Johnson’s son at the property to specify exactly what is needed to bring the property into compliance.
Commissioner Woydziak, Administrator Johnson, and the Board discussed electronic gates and other types of gates being installed at homes in the county. Emergency Services are concerned with accessing the property in case of an emergency.
Administrator Johnson and the Board will be canvassing the 2006 General Election on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.
Administrator Johnson reminded the Board that the KAC meeting is Thanksgiving week.
Mark Detter came before the Board to update the Board on the courthouse restoration project.
Commissioner Waldorf motioned
to adjourn the meeting of the Board at 10:25 a.m. Commissioner Doll seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.
