BUTLER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Commission Chairman Will Carpenter called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 a.m. Present were Commissioner Phil Anderson, Commissioner Randy Doll, Commissioner Bill Shriver, Commissioner Mike Wheeler, Administrator Will Johnson Jr., and Clerk Recorder Tammy Bridges

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Wheeler motioned to approve the minutes of the Butler County Commission Meeting of Tuesday, January 4, 2005 as amended.  Commissioner Anderson seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0. 

 

APPROVAL OF VOUCHERS

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the vouchers for January 10, 2005 in the amount of $578,189.02.  Commissioner Doll seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

2005 OFFICIAL BUTLER COUNTY DEPOSITORIES

Commissioner Wheeler motioned to designate all banks in the county as official depositories for county funds.  Commissioner Doll seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

OUTGOING COMMISSIONER COMMENTS AND OTHER OLD BUSINESS OF THE BOARD

Administrator Johnson stated that the jail count was 196 with 137 billable.

 

The Board of Commissioners commended Will Johnson on the good job he and the County employees did in assisting home owners in the County with clean up of tree limbs as a result of the ice storm.

 

Commissioner Phil Anderson thanked the Board and everyone who has given him support and stated that it has been a pleasure serving as County Commissioner.  He stated that his swearing in was 2 years ago, but it seems like six weeks, and it has been very busy, fast, and enjoyable.  Commissioner Anderson stated that he is walking away with good memories and good friends.

 

Commissioner Shriver addressed the Board and feels grateful to have served with the other Board members.  He stated that he’s seen growth in the county and the Board has made progress and established a feeling of trust.  Commissioner Shriver is proud to have been a County Commissioner and thanked everyone who gave him support during his recent health problems.

 

Commissioner Carpenter stated that he appreciated Commissioners Anderson and Shriver and their contributions to the Board.   

 

THE RETIRING COUNTY COMMISSION ADJOURNS SINE DIE

Commissioner Shriver motioned to adjourn Sine Die at 9:40 a.m.  Commissioner Anderson seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

PRESENTATION OF COMMISSIONER SERVICE PLAQUES

Commissioner Carpenter presented service plaques to Commissioners Anderson and Shriver.

 

SWEARING IN CEREMONY FOR COMMISSIONER ELECT POSITIONS AND ELECTED OFFICIAL POSITIONS 10:00 A.M.

The Honorable Judge Mike Ward swore in Mike Wheeler, Randall Waldorf, and Will Carpenter as Butler County Commissioners with a term commencing January 10, 2005.

 

The Honorable Judge Mike Ward swore in the following with terms commencing January 10, 2005:

                        Marcia McCoy                        Butler County Register of Deeds

The Honorable Judge David A. Ricke swore in Dan Woydziak as Butler County Commissioner with a term commencing January 10, 2005.

 

REORGANIZATION OF BUTLER COUNTY COMMISSION

 

CONSIDER SELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN FOR THE ENSUING YEAR

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to nominate Mike Wheeler as the new Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.  Commissioner Doll seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

CONSIDER SELECTION OF A VICE-CHAIRMAN FOR THE ENSUING YEAR

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to nominate Randy Doll as the new Vice-Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.  Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS

Darryl Lutz, Director of Public Works, came before the Board for approval to bid on millings from the Kansas Turnpike Bituminous Overlay Project.  Mr. Lutz would like to purchase 100,000 tons at $4.00/ton; 20,000 tons for the landfill and 80,000 tons for the highway department.

 

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to allow the Public Works Department to bid on millings from the Kansas Turnpike.  Commissioner Woydziak seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT

Commissioner Doll motioned to adjourn the meeting of the Board at 10:25 a.m.  Commissioner Waldorf seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.
