Landfill / Recycling
Facility Holidays
The facilities will be closed five holidays a year. Those holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

About the Landfill
Owned by Butler County, Butler County Landfill serves all of Butler County. The landfill is located on a 480-acre site with 116 acres permitted by Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). The landfill is located four miles south of Highway 254 on Boyer Road.

The landfill contains a Sub-Title D operational municipal solid waste cell, construction / demolition waste cell, and electronic waste (e-waste) household hazardous waste (HHW) collection facility.

Fees
The landfill fees support the operating expenses of Butler County Landfill, solid waste disposal issues, and environmental concerns. Disposal fees are based on the type and weight of materials brought to the landfill.

Recycling
The landfill also recycles: refrigeration units, tires, white goods, used oil, scrap metal, and batteries. View more information on recycling at the landfill.

Yard Waste Composting / Wood Chip Program
A yard waste composting / wood chip program is also featured. Compost and wood mulch are available to citizens of Butler County for personal residential use.

Please call (316) 321-5014 in advance to confirm that compost is available; during peak gardening season, the stockpile is sometimes depleted. When available, residents of Butler County may load their own wood chips and compost.
